Pierre Boulez / Dialogue de l'ombre double

Dialogue de l'ombre double

Dialogue de l'ombre double for solo live clarinet

Double shadow dialogue is a work for solo clarinet and electronic transformation device composed by Pierre Boulez in 1985 and first performed in Florence. Dedicated to his friend Luciano Berio for his 60th anniversary. Numerous versions for other instruments have been transcribed since the first one.

The clarinetist dialogues with his shadow represented here by a pre-recorded clarinet that runs with the real-time playing, the sound is then spatialised around the audience.
