The scene "Tobacco cabinet" from the documentary Arvo Pärt. 24 preludes for a fugue (F-Seitse, 2002).
Pärt showing his musical diaries and singing the melodies written in them. Filmed at Pärts' home in Berlin.
Musical diaries are Pärt's notebooks that he started to use in 1974 to write down both his musical and verbal ideas. From these pages we see that the composer has drawn inspiration from many things, like Gregorian chant and early polyphony, scripture and prayers. Covering more than four decades by now, the musical diaries are unique documents to let us follow Pärt's journey as a composer as well as a human being.
